The Challenge: No Access to Free Drinking Water After Security Check
For years, passengers traveling through Polish airports faced a common frustration: lack of access to free drinking water in the departures area. Due to international aviation security regulations, travelers are not allowed to bring their own liquids past the security checkpoint. Bottles must be emptied or discarded before entering the airside zone.
With no refill options available, the only alternative was to purchase expensive bottled water from airport retailers — often at prices reaching 8–12 PLN (2–3 EUR) per small bottle. Passengers repeatedly voiced dissatisfaction, prompting airport authorities to seek a practical and passenger-friendly solution.
The Response: Murdock Drinking Water Stations
In response, Warsaw Chopin Airport decided to install modern public drinking water stations in the terminal, following in the footsteps of earlier successful implementations at:
The Warsaw project was developed in close cooperation with our team, including site visits, needs assessment, and equipment selection.
The Solution: Murdock Wall-Mounted Units
After careful analysis, the airport opted for Murdock-branded wall-mounted drinking stations, known for their durability, hygiene, and user-friendliness in high-traffic environments like airports.
Key benefits of the chosen models include:
Strategic Placement and Visual Design
The water stations were installed in strategic post-security areas of the terminal, ensuring easy access for departing passengers. To enhance visibility and encourage usage, each station was surrounded by eye-catching water-themed graphics, making them stand out in the terminal space.
The Outcome: A Tangible Improvement in Passenger Comfort
Since the installation, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Passengers actively use the water refill points, especially those traveling with children, on a budget, or facing long waits. What was once a small but consistent pain point has now been addressed with a thoughtful, sustainable solution.
Thanks to this initiative:
The airport’s image as a modern and user-focused facility has been strengthened
The installation of Murdock drinking water stations at Warsaw Chopin Airport reflects a growing awareness in the airport industry: passenger expectations are evolving, and small changes can make a big difference. What started with successful implementations in Katowice, Radom, and Modlin has now expanded to Poland’s largest airport — with outstanding results.
This project proves that when airport authorities work closely with experienced partners, they can deliver infrastructure that is functional, sustainable, and truly appreciated by the public.
